As authorized by the family’s representatives, we will take primary responsibility for winding up your loved one’s affairs, which will typically include most or all of the following:

Immediate Tasks

  • Arrange for support of a surviving spouse or partner (temporary companion, meal service, support group, etc.)
  • Arrange for the care of pets
  • Secure premises
  • Guard against identity theft
  • Help with funeral or memorial arrangements

Organization

  • Collect and organize all existing financial and personal records
  • Identify, verify and document all financial and other assets
  • Identify, verify and document all liabilities
  • Research lost or abandoned property
  • Inventory and document all valuable personal property and arrange for professional appraisal if needed
  • Systematize all paperwork to insure orderly transition of the estate

Administration

  • Notify all stakeholders of status of the estate
  • Insure that all legitimate bills are paid and all moneys due are received
  • Provide required documentation to insurance companies and others
  • Collect and organize all financial documentation and complete the final tax return, (or forward to accountant, if appropriate)

Management

  • Prepare supporting documentation for probate filing
  • Prepare premises for sale
    or re-rental
  • Solicit and review proposals from Real Estate agents for sale of property
  • Arrange for sale, donation, storage or distribution of personal effects
  • Manage day-to-day details as they arise
  • In concert with family representative, distribute remaining assets of estate as appropriate

The death of a loved one often leaves family members with the responsibility for taking care of what may seem like a mountain of financial and other details at a time of great stress and pain.
